WHERE CHILDREN COME FIRST

The Helen L. Diller Vacation Home for the Blind Children opened its doors in 1970 as a summer vacation retreat in the seaside resort of Avalon, New Jersey. Situated in a residential community one bloc from the pristine beaches of the Atlantic Ocean, THE HOME hosts twenty blind and visually impaired children each week, and offers a vast range of activities.

Each child receives individualized attention with a counselor-to-child ratio of one-to-two. Youngsters partake in a comfortable and loving environment with a staff whose mission is to safeguard the childrens' well-being while providing an enjoyable visit. With most counselors majoring in special education, it is common for them to return for more than one summer. With the administrator directing the activities at THE HOME, staff is complemented with a full-time cook who plans and prepares well-balanced and hearty meals for the children.
